Suicide Survivor Support Program
A Suicide Survivor is anyone who:
- Attempted and survived a suicide
- Lost a loved one to suicide
- Witnessed a suicide or has been affected by suicide in any form (listening, reading, news, etc.)
A Suicide Survivor may be grieved by the loss, and stigmatized by the attempt which often leads to isolation from friends and society. This can be a painful and confusing time when one does not know whom to reach out to or talk to. Many times suicide survivors feel suicidal. This can be a scary time for the individual and the family.
Our Suicide Survivor Support Program aims to support the survivors of suicide by offering them a compassionate, non-judgmental, non-advisory listening space where they can openly share about their experiences. This is not a counseling service, we offer emotional support through mindfulness based active listening.
SSP supports survivors by:
- Reaching out telephonically through SSP- TESSS (Survivor Support Program Telephonic Emotional Support to Survivors of Suicide)
- In-person conversations through Walk-ins, and via hospital visits.
- Listening Circles for High-Risk Communities such as LGBTQIA+ community, patients suffering from terminal illnesses, commercial sex workers (online and on-ground) as a part of the Community Intervention Program by collaborating with individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions.
If you are a suicide survivor and want to talk:
- Give us a missed call, text, or WhatsApp message at 8484033312 and we will call you back.
(Every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday – 3:30 pm to 5:15 pm) - Walk-in for an in-person conversation. Appointment-based only on Wednesdays 2-5 pm. For an appointment text or WhatsApp message at 8484033312
Becoming a Volunteer
Potential volunteers are selected after screening through an interview. They then need to undergo a 100-hour training program, conducted over Five Weekends in `Mindfulness Based Active Listening’ which is followed by a month of supervised calls.
