All programs at Connecting are run by volunteers and they are the lifeline of Connecting.

Distress Helpline Program

Connecting Trust run Distress Helpline Program (DHP) is an important resource for individuals experiencing emotional distress to talk about it. The distress helpline program is a Suicide Prevention Hotline service, which is confidential, the information shared by our callers stay within the organization. The volunteers who attend the helpline are trained in Mindful Based Active Listening and offer a non-judgmental and non-advisory space for all our callers. We do not offer counseling services. The helpline runs on all days of the week from 10 am – 8 pm.

For many people, writing is the best way to express themselves, or is an easier way to talk when they have no personal space to call us. To support such people, we also offer an email service, and use the MBAL technique to offer emotional support through mails.

We also have a comprehensive referral list that comprises various mental health and allied professionals from across the country that we share with the callers upon their request and our assessment of their needs.

Becoming a Volunteer

Potential volunteers are selected after screening through an interview. They then need to undergo a 100-hour training program, conducted over Five Weekends in `Mindfulness Based Active Listening’ which is followed by a month of supervised calls.
