Awareness is the best way to tackle ignorance,
stigma and discrimination. Through our awareness initiatives our volunteers reach out
to as many stakeholders as possible with the aim of sensitizing the masses about the
importance of mental health and also to educate people about how they can prevent
suicide at an individual and social level. Awareness programs also give us more
visibility and makes people aware of our services and that they are all free of cost!
While distributing pamphlets, brochures and posters we leave our mark behind.
Your donation will help us to reach out to the masses and let them know that it’s okay
not to be okay.
For our Peer Educator Program, we follow a course
structure so that every session for the children is divided into three parts.
These parts always include a main substantive element which is embedded in between an
opening and closing activity. To make the program as interesting and varied as possible,
we use different methods like games, meditation and experiential learning-based activities
in every session. For this we need material like stationery as well as resource persons to
help train our volunteers to become PEP facilitators. Since this is a field-based program
our volunteers’ travel costs amounts to a major expense for us as well. Your donation will
help us build our resource kit for each session, as well as help in training and other
related costs of the program.
Through our helpline people who are in emotional distress or are
feeling suicidal are able to directly reach out to us. Volunteers who undergo training enable a
non-judgmental and non-advisory listening space for callers from across the country and even across
the world. To train volunteers and equip them with the comprehensive skill-set required to be on the
helpline, we rope in a team of specialists from various backgrounds in mental health. With your donation,
our major training costs and other related expenses will be taken care of.
The Survivor Support Program is our other field-based
program where we meet survivors of suicide, family members and friends and talk with them on
a regular basis. This is done through weekly visits to the hospital as well as to communities.
People share their stories with us and we give them an open, safe and confidential listening
space, thereby facilitating their healing process. Your donation will help us to expand our
reach to various hospitals and communities across Pune.
Our volunteers are the life and blood of Connecting
but the organization and coordination of our programs is only possible because we have a
team of four people in our office, which manages the different programs. Our office is a place
where work, volunteering, helping and learning comes together – while our helpline is based here,
we conduct trainings here and people who search for a space to be listened to can also walk in here.
Your donation to Connecting will help us run our office smoothly and make sure that day-to-day operations
are carried out without a hitch.
If you have ever lost someone to suicide, or
know of someone who has succumbed to it and would like to do something in their honor,
this is your chance to honor that person. By donating in memory of someone you are not
only honoring that person, you are also contributing towards the cause that helps
prevent other people from undergoing the same experience.
Our volunteers are our whole and soul. These are highly motivated
individuals who want to give back to society in whatever capacity they can. They come from different
backgrounds and walks of life but have one common motive – to help prevent suicide. To do this,
we have a team of highly recognized trainers who train all volunteers on how to deliver our services
uniformly, professionally and with highest impact to the beneficiaries. Trainings are a vital part of
our service at Connecting and by donating towards our training costs you will be helping us to create
and sustain a team of strong, compassionate and highly skilled volunteer force.
